Empowered by the Holy Spirit
“They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.”
On the very first Pentecost, the disciples were doing exactly what we’re all doing today—gathering together. But on that day, something special happened: they were filled with and empowered by the Holy Spirit and sent out to spread the gospel.
Just as the Israelites looked for and followed the pillar of fire in the desert, the tongues of fire on Pentecost were visible evidence of God’s presence among the disciples. As Christ followers, we are empowered by the same Holy Spirit who filled the disciples on the very first Pentecost. And we are called to be sent out too!
