In the small amount of time that I’ve spent living, working, and traveling abroad; I’ve come into contact with a large number of pastors. I’ve been profoundly inspired by the pastors that I’ve met. God is doing tremendous things through these people He uses to shepherd His flock. I’ve also seen some of the challenges faced by many of these pastors. A majority of them never had the opportunity to go to seminary. On one occasion some fellow classmates and I were visiting a pastor in Nicaragua who leads a church composed of several thousand members. He expressed the wish that he had had the opportunity to attend seminary. He warned us against ever taking our theological education for granted. The words of this pastor have stayed with me and have led me to seek ways to help make theological education more accessible to pastors around the world. Mission In recent years, I have become impressed by the tremendous number of innovative organizations and programs that have sprung up to increase access to theological education. One such organization is CETI (an acronym in Spanish meaning “The Center for Interdisciplinary Theological Studies”). CETI was founded in the 1980s by a group of Latin American theologians in Argentina. It has since flourished and spread to El Salvador, Bolivia, and Costa Rica. I will be going through this program of studies as a student myself before becoming an instructor. The various courses offered by CETI enable pastors and lay leaders to gather in a formal setting to work through theological questions. The curriculum emphasizes applying biblical and theological principles to four areas of life: work, church, family, and society. Because of this practical emphasis built in to CETI’s curriculum, I will also be doing ministry at Casa Adobe (a community founded and run by Resonate Global Mission missionaries, Jim and Ruth Padilla DeBorst). I will be living at Casa Adobe and participating in the life of that community: leading Bible studies, mentoring teens, and building relationships with local churches. Through these ministries and others I will attempt to put into practice the very things that I will be teaching. Thank You I praise God for His work around the world and the privilege of serving Him. Thank you for your prayers, generosity, and support for my ministry with Resonate Global Mission. Together, by God's grace, our efforts are transforming lives and communities worldwide. Thank you. Stories November 27, 2017Chess Club Connects Kids to Faith“These kids could be doing anything on a Friday night,” Micah Schuurman, a missionary with Resonate Global Mission in Costa Rica laughed, explaining that the chess club he runs has been growing more quickly than he expected. “Not all those things are good but most are more interesting than hanging out with a gringo. I keep waiting for them to stop showing up one day.” But they keep showing up.
