About Selena
Vision and Mission
I am originally from Canada and I have been immersed in ministry in Cape Town for over 15 years. I find great joy working cross-culturally, collaborating with, learning, teaching and building the capacity of local leaders to wrestle with the challenges in and outside of their communities.
Looking forward, I will be bringing my experience to the role of Urban Training Collaborative Coordinator, by providing leadership and support to local urban training initiatives and learning hubs in South Africa and the Eastern and Southern Africa regions.
Jesus at the beginning of his ministry in Luke 4:18-19 proclaimed he would bring "Good News" to the poor and freedom from oppression through the work of God in the world. This declaration has been a source of inspiration and the cornerstone of my ministry through relationship-building and mobilizing believers to embody the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Mission Work
In my ministry work I will facilitate capacity-building and learning opportunities for those who are interested or active in poverty alleviation, seeking justice, and community building practices. My work will include conducting research to break down critical issues which hinder community engagement and social transformation with grassroot leaders in church and society. I want to intentionally journey with local leaders, churches and communities through cycles of identification, reflection and action by:
- Fostering attentive listening and curiosity through personal, family, and community stories.
- Wrestling with histories, struggles and blessings of communities and cities with biblical and theological understanding.
- Amplifying the Good News by exploring how we live out our spirituality in life-giving actions rooted in love.
- Building communities of faith practitioners who sustain productive and inspiring ways of living and being in the city.
My passion in ministry is to serve with local leaders who seek the shalom of all who live in the city. Together we’ll explore and foster positive changes in the spiritual, social and material well-being of people in the rapidly growing cities of Africa to build God’s beloved community. Please join me to spark and ignite the hopeful imagination of African leaders in the church and society.
