Summer Language Institute teachers provide engaging, student-centered instruction for high school students and young adults during a 3-week English language program in July.

  • Teachers are in class 3 hours per day (either morning or afternoon) and teach either integrated skills/general English language classes (morning) or more skill- specific or content-based classes (afternoon)
  • Teacher attend several days of pre-program orientation and are expected to assist with arrival day registration and testing, homework session help/monitoring, and to attend required staff meetings
  • Teachers may also assist with or participate in extra-curricular activities such as discussion groups, Bible studies, movie nights, game nights, etc.
  • An SLI teacher should have experience and qualifications as a teacher; ESL/EFL, Language Arts, or a related field is most desired, but other fields are possible as well
  • A teaching assistant should be an undergraduate student majoring in or with an interest in education, preferably having already taken some education courses
  • Undergraduates who have already completed significant student teaching experience could be considered qualified to teach or co-teach their own classes. Undergraduates should have completed sophomore year or above
  • Experience working internationally or with international students is helpful but not necessary
  • Experience working with students who are English Language Learners is also very helpful
  • Experience teaching teenagers and/or young adults is also helpful
  • All staff will participate in 3-4 days of on-site orientation as part of becoming familiar with the program and the cultural context
  • We often suggest the novel Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys as an engaging look into one of the region's most significant events in recent history
  • Living in Lithuania requires individuals to be more physically active than might be the case in North America - more walking, e.g. Ability to travel internationally, handle own luggage, etc., and keep the demands of an intensive program schedule
  • *The estimated cost is $300-$500. It does not include airfare.
