Dasha Smolina

My Story

God has prepared me for this opportunity through my own family’s refugee journey in Spain, where we experienced the fear and uncertainty of starting anew. Witnessing the kindness of strangers who reflected God’s love deepened my faith and planted a desire to serve others in similar hardship. Now I feel God nudging me to share that same love with refugees from Ukraine and Africa, offering not just practical help, but the hope I once received.

I am excited to grow in faith as I serve, learning to rely on God’s strength in challenging moments. I look forward to building relationships, hearing stories, and witnessing how God transforms brokenness into purpose. This opportunity aligns with God’s story for my life—a journey from being helped to helping, proving that no pain is wasted when surrendered to Him.

Mission

Cohort Europe offers a year-long missional experience in which participants serve in local European ministry organizations and connect with other Cohort Europe team members to learn together, support each other, and grow spiritually. 

I will be serving with Diez42, a local Christian organization that seeks to welcome refugees and other newcomers to Spain to integrate into society through language classes, job training, discipleship, parenting activities, sports, art, and other activities. Malaga has one of the largest concentrations of refugees in Spain, which is one of the largest host countries for receiving refugees. I’m most excited to learn from the local community—their faith, their struggles, and how they experience God’s faithfulness.
