About this Church Plant

Higher Calling CRC, formerly known as Higher Calling Ministries, is a new church plant within the CRC. HCCRC is an African American church located in Smithfield, North Carolina. Smithfield is the capital of Johnson County. It was one of the most segregated counties within the state just 50 years ago. Our church was able to acquire the oldest Catholic church building ever built in Johnson County in 2017.

Higher Calling is in a very poor community where the needs are enormous. This area is also dominated with Pentecostalism, Catholicism, and holiness denominations. This makes a Reformed church plant very difficult, yet we feel God has called to this area to impact lives as they impact the community one person at a time.

Higher Calling's vision is impacting a generation causing change in a nation. We seek to accomplish this by helping 1,000 black males graduate high school; 1,000 marriages being sustained; and 1,000 souls being led to Christ. We believe that if there ever is an equalizer in our world, it comes through the gospel and education.

We currently have a small tutoring/mentor program two nights a week and some weekends that seek to help our kids in school as we mentor them and teach them the way of Christ. Our morning worship service starts at 9am. We also lease space to a Hispanic and Caucasian congregation as well. This also allows us a great chance to help provide a need as well as open the door for our Reformed faith to be shared with other denominations.
