As the winter weather enveloped Seattle, Washington, a group of students and church plant members embraced the neighborhood around them.

Serving People Who Live on the Streets

Bitter cold and snow settled across the United States this winter, striking even unexpected cities with record snowfall. Seattle, known for more rain than snow, was one of those cities.

In response, Resonate Global Mission ministry partners Graduate Christian Fellowship at the University of Washington (GCF) and Church on the Ave joined together with the greater Christian community, leaving a powerful impact in their neighborhood. Both GCF and Church on the Ave, led by Geoff and Ashley Van Dragt and Calvin Chen, came together before the snowfall hit to serve people who live on the streets in the Seattle’s University District. Members of the two communities served their neighborhood handing out blankets, socks, hats, and gloves to the folks who would be weathering the storm outside.

They weren’t in it alone, however.

Fostering Relationship through Service

Resonate ministries prioritize partnerships with ministries, business, and more in their communities because of a commitment to bringing the love of Christ to every part of life. The Church on the Ave pastoral team has worked hard to partner with people from all walks of life. As the bitter cold and unprecedented snow settled on Seattle, these partnerships blessed the surrounding community.

Keeping their neighbors fed was just as important to these Seattle ministries as keeping them warm. Along with the warm winter clothing, the ministries were able to hand out 60 gift cards for a free meal thanks to the support of a local business owner.

GCF and Church on the Ave have been building a relationship with the owner who not only gifted those in his community on the street with a hot meal, but also agreed to host a pop-up soup kitchen in his restaurant during the harsh weather.

“We look forward to building more of these relationships and seeing what good we can do in the neighborhood together and for Christ,” said Ashley Van Dragt, encouraged by the fruit of the relationship.

Thank you for supporting Resonate ministries in their work to seek the kingdom in cities across the globe. If you are in the Seattle area and would like to help GCF and Church on the Ave and in their work with their neighbors who live on the streets, please email them here.
