Country: HondurasServing Since: 2016DonateRegion: Central AmericaVertical Tabs AboutVision During my high school and college years, I had the wonderful opportunity to go on two short-term mission trips to Guatemala and Nicaragua. There, I spent time with young children in impoverished communities. It was during those experiences that I discovered I had a passion for Latin America and teaching children. After choosing to study Spanish and education at Calvin College, I had the privilege to study abroad in both Peru and Mexico. After graduation, I taught Spanish classes for a year at a local elementary and middle school. During my time of Job Searching, I discovered that one of the ways God communicates with us is through opening and closing doors of opportunity. When I saw the door open to an opportunity of teaching 3rd grade students, I truly felt the llamado – His calling. Mission My role at International School Tegucigalpa will be that of a third grade teacher. It is my goal to cultivate the minds and hearts of my young students by teaching them from a Christian perspective. As a Christian educator and mentor, I want to see the students grow not only academically but also in their spiritual lives. We as Christians are called to live with one another and to work towards shalom—the ultimate peace and love found in the merciful blood of Jesus Christ. I believe this can start as a spark within the walls of my classroom. They knew the day was going to be different. Everyone at the school—from the students and teachers to the lunch workers, office workers, and principal—was dressed in white. “That was to signify Christ rising from the dead again and your sins being washed away and becoming white as snow,” said Hannah.CONTINUE READING July 11, 2018Cultivating a Culture of Grace Hannah Damsteegt always felt called to be a teacher. “All of my life, I’ve felt it,” she said. “I loved my teachers. They were passionate teachers and Christians.
