G’awna and her daughter standing by the car gifted to them

You helped make it possible for G’awna to leave a situation that seemed hopeless.

G’awna and her boyfriend were living in a motel when she found out she was pregnant. She wasn’t sure what she was going to do. She couldn’t afford to care for another child. She was fighting a drug addiction and trapped in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend, who was struggling with his own drug use. A motel room wasn’t the streets, but it certainly wasn’t home. She felt hopeless.

But then she met a volunteer from Jesus on Colfax, a Resonate partner ministry that you help to support in Aurora, Colorado.

Through your giving to Resonate, you help to make the Jesus on Colfax ministry possible. You support a team of ministry leaders and volunteers who minister among people who live in Aurora’s motels because they cannot afford rent or a mortgage for a home.

The volunteers came not only with warm food but also with a reminder that I have a Father in heaven who loves me.

G’awna said she was trying her best, but her boyfriend’s abuse and drug use was all-consuming. There were days when she couldn’t come out of her room.

But when volunteers from Jesus on Colfax knocked on her motel room door one night, her life started to get brighter.

The volunteers just came to talk, to get to know G’awna a little better, and to bring her some warm food. At the end of the visit, they asked if they could pray for her. G’awna said yes.

G’awna said she was a Christian—but in her circumstances, it wasn’t always easy to believe that God loved her.

“The volunteers came not only with warm food but also with a reminder that I have a Father in heaven who loves me,” said G’awna. She said she was encouraged to hope again because she had friends that cared about her. She had hope that Jesus would deliver her and believed that her life could be different.

She had the relational support to leave the bad situation and to take steps toward a new life.

The days and nights were still hard, but week after week, G’awna looked forward to a visit from the Jesus on Colfax volunteers. Over time, the friendship and support she received helped G’awna believe that her life could be different. The volunteers also gifted her a car that had been donated, and that helped her take some important steps.

“She had the relational support to leave the bad situation and to take steps toward a new life,” said Shawn Sikkema, your ministry partner who started Jesus on Colfax.

G’awna moved out of the motel and is no longer in an abusive relationship. She is starting to heal from drug addiction and has a stable home for herself, her two daughters, and her baby boy. Jesus on Colfax’s volunteers have been there for her every step of the way.

Thank you for your support of this ministry through Resonate! Your support helps make it possible for Jesus on Colfax to minister with people like G’awna. Shawn said that today G’awna has so much more hope and joy. She’s “making the most of every opportunity.”

G’awna and her mom are even volunteering with Jesus on Colfax.

“They want to be part of loving other people who are in need of hope and a friend,” said Shawn.

Thank you for helping to provide hope and a friend for G’awna!
