God pursued Ashlesha. Now, you're helping her reach the growing population of students from India on a university campus.

Ashlesha lived in India with her Hindu family. She grew up believing in Hindu gods and goddesses—but then she started questioning whether the stories were true. By the time she left to attend university in Ontario, Ashlesha was an atheist.

But God pursued Ashlesha, and now you’re helping her to meet a huge need on campus.

Discovering the One True God

Throughout Ashlesha’s four years of university at Saint Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario, she searched for meaning by putting her hope in the wrong things. Near the end of her senior year, it wasn’t enough anymore. She hit rock bottom.

Just when she felt she had nowhere to turn, God placed someone in her life to speak the truth to her. It’s difficult to describe, said Ashlesha, but she encountered the Holy Spirit’s presence. She couldn’t deny God’s existence anymore. She had met the one true God.

Ashlesha was grateful for what God had done in her life, and she wanted to share the gospel with others, but she wasn’t sure how. That’s when she met Kathy, one of your leaders at Momentum Campus Ministry.

Meeting a Need on Campus

Your Resonate partner campus ministers Kathy and Steven discipled Ashlesha. They prayed with her and read the Bible with her. As time went on, they saw her faith grow. They saw Ashlesha’s desire to serve—and they knew she was the right person to help meet a huge need on campus.

“The landscape of Canadian colleges has changed so much over the past few years, with at least 30 percent now coming from India,” shared Steven.

It felt like God had sent Ashlesha to your campus ministry “for such a time as this” (see Esther 4:14), and you made it possible for her to step up. Kathy and Steven asked Ashlesha to be one of your Resonate emerging leaders. As an emerging leader, she would receive mentorship from your campus ministers while leading a key aspect of ministry.

Getting Started

While Ashlesha was nervous, she gave this role her all. Wanting to create a space on campus where everyone felt included and comfortable, she started a club. It started small. At first, only Ashlesha’s friends and a couple of other students would show up.

It was a little discouraging at first, said Kathy and Steven, but each week the number of students grew.

Now, thanks to your help and the encouragement of your campus ministers, more than 50 students are now regularly part of this ministry and learning about the gospel! They worship together every Wednesday, and Ashlesha hosts small groups at her house.

Looking Ahead

Thank you for supporting Ashlesha! You’re not only equipping her as a leader, but you’re helping to meet a huge need on her university campus.

“Ashlesha has been an incredible gift from God to help us in our mission to be an incredible community where students of all cultures experience Jesus and his transformation,” said Steven.

With your help, Ashlesha wants to make a big difference on campus: “It will be really cool if we’re able to reach even half of the Indian population that walks through the doors of the St. Lawrence College campuses and the Loyalist College-Belleville campus!”
