Andrew and Emily (Reidt) Sonneland

Our Story

About a year and a half ago we spent time in Costa Rica on university programs, and we were each left with a sense of calling to return to some of what God had begun to do in our lives in this place. Specifically, there were relationships built during this time that we want to continue to build and learn alongside these people about living as disciples of Christ. As we begin our marriage, we want to consider what we want our life together as disciples of Jesus to look like and be drawn into the work that God is doing through his Church in places of both deep need and rich hope. We have hearts for peace and justice in the world, and so when we learned about Cohort’s central mission of learning about inequality, justice, poverty, privilege, and peace-making, we became very excited to do this in a Christ-centered context.

Vision

Cohort Central America offers a year-long experience in which fellows are immersed in a new culture by serving with local mission organizations at the grassroots level. Each participant is linked to other fellows with whom they will communally participate in service, intensive learning, reflection, and spiritual formation.

Andrew will serve as an Environmental Conservation and Education assistant at Casa Adobe and with the Santo Domingo Municipality Environmental Department. Emily will serve as Casa Adobe Migration and Refugee Program Assistant and La Carpio Community Programs Assistant.  We will also be living in the intentional community at Casa Adobe and are looking forward to learning to live and serve in close proximity with other Christians.
